The Journey
12 Days
One wholesome immersion across three clusters. Encompassing three distinct culinary civilisations.
The Experience
Real Homes
6-8 guests. Meals cooked by host families from their own recipes. With locally sourced produce.
The Model
Surplus Flows Back
Host families paid first. Trust administered earnings reinvested into source communities.

The Mission

स्रोत
About the Institution →

Strot exists because cultural wealth rarely flows back to its source. The communities who carry a civilisation's living traditions - who cook its irreplaceable food, practise its vanishing crafts - are seldom the primary beneficiaries of global interest in them. Strot is the correction. Patient, structural, institutionalised.

Three Values  ·  Every Decision
Dignity

Every decision must leave the community member better off: materially, culturally, and in terms of their own agency. If it does not, it is not a Strot decision.

Authenticity

The food must be real. The relationships must be real. The experience must be irreplaceable. Strot never specifies what Host Families cook.

Integrity

Every rupee is accounted for with precision. The surplus flows back. The trust is built slowly. The institution is designed to outlast its founder.

Three clusters. Three civilisations.

Each cluster is a self-contained world - different language, different ecology, different relationship to fire, spice, and time.

01
Western Rajasthan
Thar Desert  ·  Arid Cuisine

A cuisine built for scarcity and survival that became an art form. Dairy, lentils, and millet transformed by centuries of technique. The most misunderstood food tradition in India.

02
North Karnataka
Deccan Plateau  ·  Sorghum Country

Jowar, groundnut, and tamarind in combinations only a few have tasted. A tradition of extraordinary restraint and depth, largely undocumented outside its source communities.

03
North Kerala
Malabar Coast  ·  Seafood & Spice

Ancient spice trade routes embedded in every recipe. Muslim, Hindu, and Christian traditions layered over centuries into a cuisine of remarkable complexity and quiet distinction.

The Twelve-Day Journey

Day 1
Arrival at Cluster 1
The Journey begins at the meeting point. Pre-Cluster Booklet distributed en route. Welcome orientation by the Cluster Steward. First evening meal with your Host Family.
Days 2-3
Full Immersion
Morning market walk. Kitchen access: watch, ask, cook. Craft session with SHG allied group. Regional excursion to the source of your food. Folk music evening.
Day 4
The Selection
On Day 3 evening, you choose: of everything you've been served, what would you like to have one more time? Breakfast, lunch, dinner - chosen by you. Prepared with your help by your Host Family.
Transit
Between Clusters
Strot-arranged transfer. Comfortable accommodation. Thank-you notes written en route. The next cluster's booklet distributed. You never arrange your own transport.
Repeat
Clusters 2 & 3
The structure repeats - but nothing is repetitive. A new home. A new family. A new culinary civilisation. A new Selection. No two journeys are ever the same.
Day 12
The Journey Closes
The Journey comes to a close. The recipes you documented, the postcards you wrote, the meals you chose - these come home with you.

This Journey is for people who want to understand India through its food.

I
The Curious Traveller

International experience seekers who have done the monuments. Who are now looking to understand human systems and their evolution through kitchens, not through a concierge.

II
The Diaspora Returnee

Individuals of Indian origin who want to go deeper than family visits allow. Who know something exists beneath the surface, and want to find it properly.

III
The Food Professional

Chefs, food writers, culinary educators who want primary source access: not a curated tasting menu, but real homes, real techniques, undocumented recipes.
